In-app help tool pricing by MAU

· Prices and facts as published by each vendor on

Almost every tool that puts help inside your product charges by monthly active users. That makes the price hard to compare, because the number you pay depends on a number you do not control, and because vendors quote different billing terms in the same typeface.

This page puts the published prices side by side at four sizes: 1,000, 5,000, 20,000 and 100,000 monthly active users. Every figure comes from the vendor's own pricing page, read on 22 September 2026, and every figure says whether it is billed monthly or annually. Where a vendor does not publish a price for a size, this page says so instead of estimating. Prices are in US dollars unless stated otherwise.

How to read it. Where a vendor's smallest plan covers more users than the column, the cell shows that plan's price, because you cannot buy less. The Product Fruits figures are for its Starter tier at each step; Pro and Business cost more at the same user count, and the full grid is below. "Not published" means the plan exists and the page prints no number for that size. "Custom" means the page sends you to sales.

What each vendor publishes

HelpHero prints the whole ladder, which is rare: $55 per month up to 1,000 monthly active users, $115 up to 2,500, $179 up to 5,000, $249 up to 10,000 and $299 up to 20,000, all billed monthly. The yearly column is $550, $1,150, $1,790, $2,490 and $2,990, which the page describes as two months free. Above 20,000 you contact sales.

Product Fruits also publishes its whole ladder, in a slider rather than a table. Three feature tiers, priced at every user step:

MAUStarterProBusiness
1,500$149/mo, or $111 billed annually$249/mo, or $187 billed annually$499/mo, or $374 billed annually
3,000$199/mo, or $149 billed annually$299/mo, or $224 billed annually$699/mo, or $524 billed annually
5,000$299/mo, or $224 billed annually$449/mo, or $337 billed annually$899/mo, or $674 billed annually
10,000$399/mo, or $299 billed annually$549/mo, or $412 billed annually$1,299/mo, or $974 billed annually
20,000$499/mo, or $373 billed annually$649/mo, or $487 billed annually$1,599/mo, or $1,199 billed annually

The slider offers 50k and 100k+ as further steps; the published figures stop at 20,000. Their FAQ says the product keeps working for users above your quota and that customer service will get in touch about a plan that fits better.

UserGuiding starts at $174 per month billed yearly for Starter from 2,000 monthly active users, and $349 per month billed yearly for Growth. The page has a monthly toggle and does not print the monthly figures. Higher volumes are custom.

Jimo starts at $249 per month billed yearly, or $311 billed monthly, with 2,500 users included and a plan range of 0 to 10k. Growth is $499 billed yearly, or $624 billed monthly, with the same 2,500 included and a range to 100k. What the users between the included amount and the top of the range cost is not on the page.

Chameleon counts monthly tracked users, defined as uniquely identified user profiles sent to Chameleon in the previous 30 days. Startup starts at $279 for 2,000 tracked users. Pro is from $750 per month, which its FAQ describes as self-serve with monthly billing. Growth is from $1,250 per month for 5k, billed annually. Roles and permissions are an Enterprise feature, and extra seats are priced separately: $300 per month for five on Pro, $3,000 a year for five on Growth.

Userpilot publishes $299 per month for Starter up to 2,000 monthly active users and from $849 per month for Growth with 10k included. The page shows no monthly or annual toggle and states no billing basis, so this page does not claim one.

Appcues publishes no prices. Start covers up to 3,000 monthly active users, Grow starts at 3,000, and the page states that pricing is based on monthly active users, number of installations and published experiences.

Three things the table shows

Published prices thin out as you grow. At 1,000 users, six of the seven usage-priced vendors carry a figure. At 20,000, two do: HelpHero and Product Fruits. At 100,000, none of them publishes anything, and the price becomes a conversation in which what you pay depends on what the salesperson knows about you.

You are paying for readers, not for content. The same forty tooltips cost $55 a month at 1,000 users and $299 at 20,000 on HelpHero, and $149 rising to $499 on Product Fruits Starter. Nothing about the content changed. What changed is how many people your product has, which is also the thing you are working hardest to increase. Why in-app help vendors charge per MAU explains where that model comes from, and it is not greed: it follows from rendering inside your app.

Roles sit above the usage line too. Chameleon puts roles and permissions on Enterprise and prices extra seats on top of the plan. That pattern repeats outside this category: a headless CMS puts restricted roles on its larger plans as well. The moment you want one person to edit help text and nothing else, you are usually looking at a different plan than the one you priced.

What a flat price assumes

HelpCCMS is €40 per month regardless of how many people read your help, because nothing of ours runs inside your product. Your application fetches text by key and renders it itself, so there is no user for us to count. The trade is real and worth stating: you do the integration once, and we cannot place help for you, show a tour, or tell you which tooltip was read. What HelpCCMS costs has the plan, and how to manage in-app help sets out where each approach fits.

If you need tours, checklists and in-app targeting without developer time, the tools above do things we do not, and the usage bill is what that costs.
